These golden, sugar-dusted Churro Cruffins bring together the flaky elegance of French pastry with the warm cinnamon embrace of Spanish churros.

Ingredients

  • 1 package store-bought puff pastry
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chocolate, jam, or cream cheese (filling)
  • neutral oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by heating neutral oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). Meanwhile, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl and set aside for coating.
  2. Roll out cold puff pastry to approximately 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface, then cut into even squares about 3-4 inches wide.
  3. Place a small tablespoon of your chosen filling (chocolate, jam, or sweetened cream cheese) in the center of each pastry square.
  4. Fold each corner of the pastry square toward the center and pinch firmly to seal.
  5. Shape each sealed pastry into a cylinder, then curve it into a U-shape and place in a muffin tin.
  6. Fry the cruffins in batches for 3-4 minutes per side until deeply golden brown.
  7. Drain briefly on paper towels, then immediately roll the hot cruffins in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Serve these treats while still warm.

Notes

  • Keep pastry cold: Refrigerate before frying.
  • Oil temperature matters: Maintain a steady 350°F.
  • Double-seal the edges: Press with fork tines after pinching.
  • Muffin tin trick: Chill cruffins in the tin for 15 minutes before frying.
  • Sugar while hot: Roll in cinnamon-sugar immediately after frying.
